Feature Friday #13: For you in Film, communities near you
This week, Ulti-Mate shipped: For you in the film library, communities near you in 78 countries, a simpler event form, a Coming up shelf in Plans, and 82 fixes.
This week (October 16-23) we shipped: For you in the film library, communities near you in 78 countries, a simpler event form, a Coming up shelf in Plans, and 82 smaller fixes.
Most of this release is about getting to what's yours faster: the film notes meant for you, the communities near you, and the plans for your next practice. We also made the event form shorter.
Watch every clip you're tagged in
The film library now opens on the comments meant for you, and plays them back as a queue of short clips.
Open Film and the For you tab lists the comments addressed to you - tags, line and pod tags, and replies to your comments - unread first. Updates gathers the other new comments on films you've watched or added, one row per film, and a Continue watching shelf above them picks up where you left off.
Press Play all and each comment plays as a short clip around its moment, one after another. The Queue tab beside Comments shows what's left, Next clip moves you on, and Auto-play runs the list without a click. The comment pops up on the video as its clip plays, so you can Reply without leaving the queue. Film review goes from hunting through a game for your name to a few minutes of clips.
Find a game wherever you are
The communities directory now covers 78 countries, and finds the ones near you.
Choose Near me on Communities, then Use my current location or Use my profile location, and the directory sorts nearest first, with a distance on each row and Within to leave out what's far away. Each community says whether it's an Association or Open play, with its website, contact email and social accounts where it publishes them.
Your own communities now sit in a Your communities shelf at the top, and a map pin adds a community to your profile in one click. Where the directory has nothing yet, it offers to add one, so a new player can find a game wherever they've moved to.
Last week the directory was the US and Canada. The info button beside Add community shows which of WFDF's member countries it covers, with each governing body's website, email and social accounts. If your community is missing, add it - and tell us if one is listed wrong.
Create an event in fewer steps
Creating and editing an event now use the same form, and it's shorter.
Open Events and create one: type and name, then When, Where and Invites, with RSVP limits, links and the description folded under More details. The fold opens on its own when one of its fields has a value, so Edit shows everything an event has. Activities and films got the same treatment - one step, with the extras under More details - so a quick practice takes a few fields, not a wizard.
Your next practice's plan, first
The plans for your next practices now sit at the top of Plans.
Open Plans and the Coming up shelf lists every plan linked to an event that hasn't happened yet, soonest first. With none yet, New plan opens with the event picker ready, so the next practice's plan is a click from the library.
Smaller fixes
- Phones held sideways: navigation moves to a rail down the side and the top bar slides away as you scroll, so film takes the whole height and the plan editor reads one section at a time.
- Lists: search, filters and sort now stay in the page's address, so a reload or a link sent to a co-captain opens a list the way you left it.
- Lines: an event's Lines & pods card now shows on a season with no lines yet, with Build a line to start one.
- Forms: field labels no longer say "(optional)", the venue picker offers No location as a row, and a monthly repeat asks for the Day of the month.
- Date picker: the calendar grid works from the keyboard, arrow keys and all.
- Accessibility: every dropdown is named for screen readers, the app's header and navigation are marked as such, and the current and picked states stay visible in high-contrast mode.
- Speed: gallery photos get thumbnails for covers and tiles, and images load without holding up scrolling.
- Sign-in: a shared link's sign-in screen names what it opens ("Sign in to open this plan"), and a refused code says why.
- A link to something that's been deleted now says so, instead of quietly sending you somewhere else.
- The offline banner no longer promises that every change will save.
- Plus the rest - 82 fixes in all this week, and the running list is in #changelog in the Discord.
What we're working on next
Public pages for every country in the communities directory, so a player searching for ultimate in their town finds it, and calendar feeds that keep your team's schedule in Google, Apple or Outlook. We're also looking for more teams to try Ulti-Mate - if yours is interested, we'd love to hear from you.
Tell us what your team needs at feedback@ulti-mate.app, or send us a message on Instagram, where a new roundup goes up every Friday.
