Feature Friday #4: forecasts, timezones, 85 fixes

This week, Ulti-Mate shipped: an hourly weather forecast on every outdoor event, a reworked plan editor header, timezone improvements, and 85 smaller fixes.

This week (August 14-20) we shipped: an hour-by-hour weather forecast on outdoor events, a reworked practice-plan editor header, timezone improvements, and 85 smaller fixes.

Field forecasts

An outdoor practice's event page with the forecast card in the right rail: 83 degrees and 5 mph from the south at the top, then 6 PM to 9 PM hour by hour with a temperature and a rain chance under each, sunset at 7:49 PM, and a stamp reading updated 13 hours ago
The forecast sits in the right rail, showing the weather for the practice hours.

Outdoor events now show a weather forecast. Once a practice is six days away, its page shows what the field will be like - temperature, wind, and rain chance, hour by hour across the time the event is scheduled. A storm advisory appears if it lands in the three hours either side of your event, which covers the drive there and back. Everything reads in your units - °F or °C is a row in Preferences, or picked automatically from where you are.

The forecast keeps itself current in the background all week and grabs a fresh reading when you open the page. Inside 48 hours of start you also get a Refresh button. After the event, the reading saves, so that you'll always have a record.

Two notes: the data comes from the National Weather Service, so it's US-only for now, and an indoor venue gets no card, because a gym has no weather. Events is still in beta - so if the card gets something wrong about your field, let us know.

Plan editor

The practice-plan editor with its full header: the plan's name, the description under it, buttons to add a date and time and a location, and the Library panel open down the right-hand side
The full header, with the Library open beside the plan.
The same editor scrolled into: the header is now a slim bar carrying the plan's name, TUE - AUG 25 - 6 PM and the venue, while a drill is dragged in from the Library
Scroll in and it condenses - the name and the clock stay with you.

Everything in the practice-plan editor header now edits in place - click the title, the date, the venue, and type. Scroll into a long plan and the header condenses to a slim bar, so you keep the plan's name and clock without losing your spot. The activity sidebar is the Library now: search it, filter it, and see at a glance which filters are on. The plan's comment thread also docks in the side rail now.

Timezones

Locations and events have attached timezones now and an event automatically inherits the timezone of its location. If the saved timezone is different from your current timezone, it will be explicitly displayed on the UI. There is also now a searchable list row for timezones. And creating an event asks where before when - the timezone it will use is shown right on the form.

Smaller fixes

  • Printed plans say which plan and which team they belong to, hold up away from a screen, and carry the plan's comments at the foot - so "bring the extra discs" makes it to the field even when the phone doesn't.
  • Sign-in lost its dead ends: if a code isn't coming the screen says why, an invite sent to a different address says so, and you land on the page you were trying to open.
  • Copy buttons sit beside the values worth pasting - an address, a link, an email - so getting a detail into the group chat is one tap.
  • Toasts swipe away on a phone, and a save that fails in the background now says so.
  • Long pickers are searchable: find a location or a country by typing, and create a new location right from the picker.
  • The film room pairs the video with its comments in theater mode, and the comment rail follows playback to whatever's on screen.
  • Admins can add themselves to the roster as a player, and if you use Ulti-Mate solo, your events take RSVPs and attendance too.
  • New teams start with better examples - a practice already on the calendar, linked to a plan, at a field pinned where your team actually is.
  • Checkboxes, radios and sliders are drawn by the app now, so they match on every device, hover hints became real tooltips that work on phones, and dark mode fixed the places it was quietly wrong.
  • An accessibility round: severe-weather alerts get announced, every control meets the touch-target floor, and a locked setting explains itself field by field.
  • A backend pass tightened who sees what - feeds and pickers respect event visibility everywhere, and a few numbers meant for leadership stopped traveling to everyone's browser.
  • Plus the rest - 85 fixes in all this week, and the running list is in #changelog in the Discord.

What we're working on next

We posted on r/ultimate and got some great feedback. We'll be working on a drills importer next - stay tuned!
